Upcoming Bollywood Movies in Summer 2009 | BlockBusters in 2009 | Big Budget Bollywood Movies in 2009

A scene from Kambakkth Ishq

Kambakkth Ishq

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora and Aftab Shivdasani

Director: Sabbir Khan

Plot: Somewhere in Hollywood, a cocky stuntman (Akshay Kumar) and a scalding hot (headed) model (Kareena Kapoor) forge a love-hate relationship. What entails? Why 100 per cent desi romance, of course!

Pros: A lot of big-budget gimmickry is at work. Apart from a surplus of bikini-clad bodies, high-profile thrills and glitzy production values including a $4000 dress on its tab, the legendary Italian StallionSylvester Stallone teams up with Wild Things hottie Denise Richards to do his bit in this no-stone-left-unturned affair.

Cons: Lavish budgets do not guarantee blockbusters. Akshay should know. His year began with the debacle called Chandni Chowk To China.

New York

Cast: John Abraham, Irrfan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Katrina Kaif

Director: Kabir Khan

Plot: New York chronicles the impact of 9/11 on the lives of three Indians (John, Katrina, Neil) studying abroad and the impact it has on their friendship.

Pros: Filmmaker Kabir Khan has a knack for portraying tough issues with tremendous lucidity as witnessed in his earlier Kabul Express.

The impressively intense promos of New York promise this very clarity and sensibility as well.

Cons: Terrorism-theme movies aren't always a safe bet against an audience fed on a regular appetite of escapist fare.

A scene from Kaminey

Kaminey

Cast: Shahid Kapur, Priyanka Chopra and Amol Gupte

Director: Vishal Bharadwaj

Plot: This one is about a pair of slum-raised twin brothers (Kapur). One stammers. The other, lisps. They aren't exactly each other's favourite person.

Ideological clashes notwithstanding, both want to do well. And then comes the proverbial kahani mein twist that will change their personal equation forever.

Pros: It's easily one of the most rocking movie titles of the year! Besides, everyone's curious to know what Vishal has to offer next after the inarguably flawless Omkara.

Cons: A stammering and lisping Shahid Kapur double bill might come as a shocker to his giggly, starry-eyed fans after choco-boy acts in Jab We Met and Kismat Konnection.

A scene from Main Aur Mrs Khanna

Main Aur Mrs Khanna

Cast: Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Sohail Khan

Director: Prem R Soni

Plot: And they (Khan, Kapoor) lived happily ever after? Not quite. This one's about what happens when trouble brews in marital paradise.

Pros: Be it Chalte Chalte or Saathiya, viewers love to watch squabbling couples kiss and make up on celluloid in a short span of 16 reels. Plus, there's lately-turned-arty Preity Zinta doing a show-stopping item number.

Cons: Previously when Salman and Bebo romanced on screen in Kyon Ki, it met with a less-than-lukewarm response.

A scene from Wanted: Dead and Alive

Wanted: Dead and Alive

Cast: Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia, Mahesh Manjrekar and Sayaji Shinde

Director: Prabhudeva

Plot: A remake of the 2006 Telugu action caper, Pokiri, Wanted involves a ruffian (Khan) caught amidst a blood-thirsty gang war and his affections for a girl-next-door type (Takia). Only his true identity is not what it really seems.

Pros: The original starring Mahesh Babu was a huge success.

Cons: Its violence-filled proceedings will alienate a major chunk of the audiences who prefer comedy from the star, considering he hasn't had a real hit since Partner.

A scene from Blue

Blue

Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan and Lara Dutta

Director: Anthony D'Souza

Plot: A bunch of ambitious divers plunge into the deep blue sea in the pursuit of hidden treasure tackling every hurdle or shark thrown in their way.

Pros: For starters, Blue's soundtrack has Oscar-winner A R Rahman at its helm. Majority of the flick has been shot underwater in the Bahamas and is said to feature edge-of-the-seat thrills from its fit-looking cast.

There's also Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue adding to the glam quotient with a stunning music video. Not to forget, our very own Lara in a never-seen-before 'water baby' avatar.

Cons: If this turns out to be a case of all style no substance, Blue will be one wet loser.

A scene from London Dreams

London Dreams

Cast: Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Asin

Director: Vipul Shah

Plot: Besides a whole lot of London darshan, the romance drama focuses on the rhythm and romance of musician buddies (Khan, Devgan) turned quarreling brats. Enter peacemaker Asin.

Pros: Last time Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan chased the same girl it resulted in one of the biggest hits of the year -- Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Can Asin do an Ash? Wait and Watch.

Cons: The thought of these two actors doing a Farhan Akhtar in Rock On!! isn't exactly electrifying.
